Located at Sheung Tsuen, Pat Heung, the Lai Mansion was constructed in 1919 by Mr. Lai Kam Tai, an overseas Chinese from Australia, a well-known businessman and a community leader in the 19th century. Using brickworks and timber of high quality, the house is 2-storey high with 4 units and sharing balconies built of reinforced concrete slabs. The Chinese pitched roof of the entrance hall will be restored while the original external wall will be preserved to reflect the glory of this historical monument.
The main ridge, two gable ridges, two fascia boards and plaster mouldings will be repaired to preserve and restore its traditional Chinese architectural characteristics. This project also provides dental replacement to damaged bricks under cornice to ensure that water tightness of the wall can be reinstated while termite eradication and baiting system will be implemented in the repaired parts.
