Sikka Art and Design Festival 2023: A Blooming Participation and Workshop
We are pleased to report our successful participation in the Sikka Art and Design Festival 2023, which transpired from February 25th to March 5th, 2023, in the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood. This remarkable festival, held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, which is a flagship event of the Dubai Art Season.
Our involvement in the festival was marked by our contribution to a diverse array of creative events and activities, showcasing the works of Emirati talents and artists residing in the UAE and GCC. The theme of this year’s festival drew inspiration from creativity, the influences of colors, and the masterpieces that emerged on blank canvases. Dubai Culture orchestrated an exceptional edition of Sikka, fostering an inspiring atmosphere that celebrated art, music, cinema, and design through various events involving creative individuals.
A notable highlight of our participation was leading an art workshop for the Sikka Art Fair 2023. This workshop, titled “Hapa Zome (Japanese Flower Pounding/Printing) – Organic Hammered Prints,” was expertly conducted by our MENA Head of Marketing Tala Alnounou. Participants engaged in creating designs by hammering flowers and leaves, extracting natural dyes onto mixed mediums. The workshop aimed to introduce attendees to print making and natural pattern making, utilizing an array of flowers and leaves to craft memorable pieces, breathe new life into slightly wilted flowers, and convey stories.
The workshop catered to a diverse audience, including children, young adults, students, families, and individuals interested in exploring and experimenting with art and design. Held on Sunday, February 26th, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at House 11, the workshop was free of charge.
